On January 18th, SYSTRAN signed a license agreement in Beijing with Kingsoft, whereby SYSTRAN will be providing its translation engine to “Iciba” (www.iciba.com), an online English language-learning service and dictionary service. Starting with the Chinese-English language pair, this service is planned to be launched in next March. Then, the two companies intend to progressively expand their scope of collaboration to other language pairs and also to other services including Kingsoft’s flagship product WPS Office.

As a reminder, “Iciba” is a dictionary service with over 2 million users per year, and “WPS Office” has a market share exceeding 90% for the mobile version in China. Furthermore, 50% of the monthly users of WPS Office are overseas users which points out its wide use in the market. It has also been selected among the leading apps of 2015 in the Apple App Store.

Mr Lucas Ji, SYSTRAN International’s President who signed the contract, commented, “Through the collaboration between Kingsoft and SYSTRAN, we hope to enhance significantly existing services and accelerate the development of new business models.” And “in addition to SYSTRAN’s official China market entry, we have not only earned the opportunity to expand sales but also the opportunity to develop ground-breaking technology related to the Chinese language.”
